MOST LIKELY TO BE FOUND:
Wandering into the library at an ungodly hour, one sock missing, asking Dorian to help research a gloriously absurd question that was never meant to have a single answer. That is how we know we have found our next expedition.

Ember Blackflame

Every expedition begins with a thought—a question that refuses to be ignored. From that thought, a single thread emerges, weaving its way through history, myth, science, and the strange corners of the unknown. As the thread grows into a web of discovery, an expedition begins to take shape—one that may change how we understand the world and our place within it. Ember is the one who finds that first thread and dares to follow it. With the Knotbound Crew beside her, she sets forth into the unmapped, seeking truth beyond the edge of what is known.

FAVORITE QUOTE: “If you seek only truth, you miss the wonder of the world.”
Honorable mention: “Oopsie.”
WHAT SHE WOULD WANT YOU TO REMEMBER: Weave the threads of connection, for they fan the flame within us.
Ember possesses a depth of mind that allows her to explore farther than most would venture. She does not linger in shallow water. She is always searching for the next horizon—and what lies beyond it.
Ember does not question in a straight line. She questions in a web. She sees the world not only as it is, but as it once was, as it might have been, and as it could become. It is this instinct that guides Le Chroí into uncharted depths, toward places others may have passed without ever truly seeing.
She spent her youth as a wild, slightly feral child roaming the forests of northern Florida. She fought imaginary dragons, searched for fairies, and let her imagination take flight beneath the komorebi of the wilderness, where it soon grew into an inferno of curiosity. Even then, she viewed the world through a prism rather than a single ray, instinctively following every question toward the countless others hidden behind it.
As she grew older, that curiosity became a lifelong pursuit of history, discovery, and storytelling. Ember quickly made a name for herself through her unusual research abilities and her talent for recognizing connections others overlooked. She became known for pursuing questions that belonged neatly to no single field. One investigation might lead her through a flooded Florida forest in search of a disappearing species; another into an ancient ruin, a forgotten archive, or a village where history survived only in stories passed from one generation to the next.
She worked beside scientists, historians, archaeologists, and local witnesses, gathering fragments others had studied separately and weaving them into a fuller account. In time, organizations began commissioning her to travel wherever the evidence led. Her work carried her across the globe and through more than one hundred investigations.
Ember is always searching for the truth concealed behind the curtain. Where others may stop at the fact presented before them, she asks what emotions, cultures, languages, folklore, fears, beliefs, and histories allowed it to come into being. Then she asks how the accepted answer might be wrong—and what would change if even one of those influences had been different.
She does not seek knowledge merely to possess an answer. She seeks it so that she may understand. Ember welcomes the discovery that she has been wrong, because in that moment, her world does not diminish.
It expands.
Her curious mind, compassionate heart, unwavering moral compass, and love of adventure make her a guiding light aboard Le Chroí and among the Knotbound Crew. She cares for the ship and all who sail upon her as both family and home.
Surrounded by a crew who support her questions, challenge her thinking, and encourage her exploration, Ember is free to follow the threads others overlook—and uncover what might otherwise have remained hidden beneath the surface.
