MOST LIKELY TO BE FOUND:

Covered in ink, surrounded by books, possibly covered in dirt, possibly holding a newly discovered species of insect or mammal, and one more question from Ember away from reconsidering his career choices.

THE ENGINEER

Ezryn Soran

Great discoveries rarely happen in isolation. The strongest teams are built through connection—through the ability to recognize one another’s strengths and limitations, then weave them into a knot stronger than any single thread could ever be.

Ezryn is more than Le Chroí’s engineer; he is the quiet soul within her living wood. He watches carefully, listens closely, and waits for the precise moment to step forward with whatever the ship or her crew needs to thrive. Where Ember ties the crew together to discover the unmapped, Ezryn binds their talents into something tangible.

Through his hands, the things they dare to imagine are given shape, purpose, and the means to become real.

FAVORITE QUOTE: "A single thread frays in the wind. Woven with others, it can bear the weight of a thousand storms."
Honorable mention: “Of course you did.”
WHAT HE WOULD WANT YOU TO REMEMBER: Never focus so much on the practical that you leave no room for the imagined.

Ezryn's strength lies in observing with the curiosity of a scientist, listening with the discernment of a sailor, solving problems with the practicality of an engineer, and weaving solutions with the imagination of a poet.

Raised in County Cork, he spent his childhood under the wing of his father, an inventor who took great pride in passing down his knowledge and creativity to his only son. His mother, a poet and artist from County Clare, brought with her the mystery, folklore, and quiet magic of western Ireland. Together, they taught him that the world was something to be understood just as much as it was something to be imagined. He spent his summers exploring open fields, misty forests, and abandoned castles. As he grew older, he sailed under the command of his uncle, traveling across the globe and discovering that practicality and imagination, when woven together, could create something truly beautiful.

Ezryn does not ask to control. He asks to serve. He does not create simply to solve problems, but to bring ideas into existence—to solve problems no one knew existed and, in doing so, draw the crew a little closer together.

He is the knot—the quiet thread that holds everything together. He doesn't stand between people; he connects them.

Though he built the engines that carry the Le Chroí across impossible seas, his greatest responsibility lies much deeper within her hull. Hidden beneath the library rests the Heart of the Le Chroí—a living ember that binds the ship to her crew through countless blue threads of connection. Ezryn tends the Heart with quiet reverence, never treating it as a machine to be repaired, but as something living to be understood. He knows every subtle change in its rhythm, every new thread it weaves, and every silence that asks to be listened to rather than fixed.

When he isn't below deck, he can often be found among the warmth of the conservatory, caring for the orchids, herbs, climbing vines, and strange plants gathered from distant expeditions. To Ezryn, the Heart of the Le Chroí and the conservatory are much the same. Both are living things that flourish through patience rather than force. He has an uncanny way of coaxing life from things others have nearly given up on, believing that people are not so different from gardens. Both flourish when given patience, light, and someone willing to quietly tend them.

Whether repairing a lantern, sharing tea with a weary crewmate, or nurturing a forgotten seedling back to life, Ezryn has a way of leaving every place—and every person—a little stronger than he found them.

The crew may remember the adventures that changed their lives, but they remember Ezryn because he made sure they never had to face them alone.
